Hoomanz! PC and Console Game
Unreal Engine 5

I led the end-to-end production of Hoomanz!, an original self-published game developed in Unreal Engine 5 and released on Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store and Apple Mac App Store. I shaped the scope of the project across a cross-functional development team of game designers, concept artists, 3D artists, UI designers, engineers and QA, and maintained a backlog of user stories and tasks in Jira for planning into 2-week sprints. I ensured that quality standards were met for each task according to our definitions of done, helped the team remove blockers and supported marketing efforts by co-ordinating asset creation and delivery.

The Challenge

The main challenge for the game was ensuring performance parity across all target platforms, as the game’s core game mechanic relies on a lot of dynamic lighting. The more limiting mobile hardware of the Nintendo Switch was a technical challenge that had no easy solution, as each approach amounted to a harsh compromise that would adversely affect the playing experience. Releasing on Switch was important for the studio, but as a development team we had to ensure the quality standard was at a high enough level for players to enjoy.

The Solution

Late in development, we moved to Unreal Engine 5.6.
